Why are the colors in my downloaded video slightly different from the hosted copy?

When a video on the platform is viewed it is rendered in real time. Using a process known as lossless playback, the platform streams raw data from our servers to the viewer's computer without loss of data.

When a video is converted to MP4 for downloading, a "lossy" process is used based on the MP4's internal h.264 coding technique. Very subtle differences in color may appear on high-quality, top grade computer monitors. This behavior is normal and expected.
